Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year.
My name is Jared Peterson and I am your son or daughter’s Language Arts teacher for this year. This is my 9th year teaching and after 4 years at Hornedo I am starting my 5th year at Brown. I
bring to my classroom a variety of life experiences that I believe will
make this year a life changing experience for everyone.
Let me take a few minutes and introduce myself. As I said my name is Jared Peterson. I am a Canadian who by way of Oregon and California made my way to the place I now call home, El Paso Texas. I grew up and graduated from high school in a little town called Hope. My graduating class consisted of 56 people. I saved my pennies and travelled across Europe for 2 months before beginning my college career in Portland, Oregon. I
attended the Portland campus of Oklahoma Christian University of
Science and Arts where I received my Bachelors Degree in Biblical
Studies and Youth Ministry. I worked as an Associate Minister for several years in the Los Angeles area before moving to El Paso.
I began teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Math at a small private school while I was studying to become an EMT. After successfully passing my National Registry EMT exam, I was hired to work at Life Ambulance. After several years as an EMT, I enrolled in Region 19’s Alternative Teacher Certification Program. Upon successful completion of the program, I was hired by EPISD as a Language Arts teacher at Hornedo Middle School.
I am a published author and I am currently working on a second and third novel I hope to complete very soon. I love to read and love even more to write. Your son or daughter will be doing plenty of both throughout the school year.
I am a unique teacher and feel that students learn best when they can ‘experience’ their education. Be
prepared to hear stories about the wacky and crazy things that will
take place in the classroom to enhance the education your child
Throughout the year we will do a variety of assignments. Most of the class work will be done in class and rarely will your child need to complete work at home. I
do have a weekly calendar posted on my board so students can see
important due dates for the current week. I am very routine and I
usually do all tests/quizzes on Wednesdays.
